3 Common Issues With Air Conditioners You Must Know How To Repair

Posted on

Just like all things, air conditioners have some common problems that every homeowner should know how to repair. By knowing how to make the repairs whenever these common issues arise, you can be sure that you get the repairs done in a timely manner to guarantee it continues to work efficiently and keep you cool in your own home. Here are the three common issues that you should know how to repair:

Frozen Coils:

Frozen coils can be caused for a number of different reasons. One reason could be that the air filter is too dirty. If the air filter is dirty, then air is blocked from flowing into and out of your home, which then builds up too much cold air in the system that can then begin to freeze the coils. To fix this issue, you will want to regularly change out the air filter in your AC system. Another reason coils can freeze in your AC system could be because of low refrigerant levels. Low refrigerant levels are also going to cause your AC to run inefficiently, possibly resulting in too much stored cold air and thus causing the issue with frozen coils.

Broken Outdoor Fan:

The fan that sits outside of your home attached to the AC system is what helps pull hot air outside of your home. A common issue with the fan is the fact that it can suddenly stop functioning altogether. This can happen for two reasons. Either the fan could be bad, or the capacitor is bad. Both of these issues can cause the AC system to overheat, which means damage will be done to the system, and there could even be a chance of fire. If you notice that there is a problem with the fan, it is recommended that you hire professionals to test the system to determine if the fan itself needs replacing or the capacitor is bad and needs repairs.

A Clogged Drainpipe:

The drainpipe in your AC system is what helps to ensure that condensation is removed from the home. If the drain pipe is clogged, then the condensation can leak into your home, causing significant water damage. In order to avoid this from happening in the first place, it is highly recommended that you hire professionals to clean out the drain pipe before summer arrives when you will be using the AC the most.
