Three Signs You Need Pool Repair Services

Posted on

Swimming pools can be excellent additions to homes, offering beauty to the landscape and numerous hours of relaxation and enjoyment. However, as with all things of value, swimming pools do require occasional repairs and maintenance. To ensure that you are always able to keep your swimming pool in tip-top shape, here are three signs to keep an eye out for so that you know when you need to contact a swimming pool repair service.

Sign #1: Algae Buildup

If you notice that there is a lot of green algae building up on top of the water, on the sidewalls of the pool, or even on the bottom of the pool, then it may be a result of the pump and filter malfunctioning. As long as the algae buildup is not severe, you can clean it off yourself. However, if it is severe and/or it continues, then there is an underlying problem that needs to be addressed by a professional.

Sign #2: Chemical Imbalance

When you take a dip in the swimming pool, do you notice that your eyes or skin burn? If so, it may be that the chemicals in the water are imbalanced. As a general rule, if you are suffering from stinging eyes, the pH levels in the water are too high. Make sure to test the pH levels before you do anything, and if the levels are too high, then pour a reducer into the water to reduce the acidity. If the levels are too low, you can treat the water with sodium carbonate.

Sign #3: Liner Wear

Over a period of time, vinyl liners will begin to wear down and show signs of wear. For instance, the material will begin to become less resilient and the color of the liner may begin to fade. Eventually, the liner may even begin to crack, resulting in leaks, at which time the liner will need to be patched or replaced, depending on the extent of the damage. These types of issues tend to be more common during the wintertime when ice puts additional pressure on the lining and the freeze/thaw cycle occurs.

If you notice any of the aforementioned signs, you need to contact a professional swimming pool repair service as soon as possible for assistance. In addition, regardless of your pool's state, it is important for your pool's equipment to be inspected on a regular basis to ensure that it is operating properly. This inspection can be done on your own or you can hire a swimming pool professional to do it for you.
